Here is some information
that will introduce you to the exciting world of barbershop singing with the
Colonial Spirit Chorus:
· Our songs are sung “a cappella” (voices only – without accompaniment)
· We don’t hold music when we sing
· We use choreography (movement) in many of our songs
Voices are broken
down into four parts:
Tenor – sings the high harmony part above the Leads
Lead – sings the melody line most of the time
Baritone – sings the harmony part above or below the Leads
Bass – sings the
low harmony part below the Baritone
Each part is sung within a vocal range and we will help you find which part suits your voice. The ability to sing in tune and hold your part are the main requirements. The rest we teach you. It is not a prerequisite to read music; although, it certainly is an asset. A love of harmony is a definite advantage.
We are a performing chorus; therefore, you will be required to have a sense of rhythm and you will need to learn a simple dance routine.
Regular attendance at rehearsals is a requirement. We rehearse weekly throughout the year generally from 7:15 PM to 10:15 PM.
